Those questions matter, but I believe there's an even more important question to answer first:

How do you want to live?

Finding the right home isn't only about the house. It's about finding the location, community, surroundings, and lifestyle that fit what you want your life to look like.

Tucson Isn't Just One Lifestyle

One of the things that makes the Tucson Metro area interesting is how different one part of the community can feel from another.

You might picture yourself waking up to mountain and desert views with more privacy and space around you. Someone else may prefer a gated community with golf, recreation, and neighborhood amenities.

Maybe being close to restaurants, shopping, entertainment, medical facilities, or the University of Arizona is important to you.

Or perhaps you're looking for something quieter outside the center of Tucson in communities such as Oro Valley, Marana, Catalina, or Northwest Tucson.

There isn't one "best" place to live in Tucson.

There's the place that's best for you.

Before deciding where to buy, think about what an ordinary Tuesday is going to look like after you move.

How far do you want to drive for groceries?

Will you commute to work, work from home, or travel frequently?

Do you want hiking and outdoor recreation nearby?

Would you enjoy having restaurants and entertainment just minutes away, or would you gladly drive farther in exchange for privacy and larger lots?

Do you want an HOA community with maintained common areas and amenities, or would you prefer a property without an HOA?

Are mountain views important? How about golf, a swimming pool, space for an RV, a workshop, or room for visiting family?

Those answers can tell us far more about where you should be looking than simply entering a price range into a home-search website.

The Right House in the Wrong Location Is Still the Wrong House

I've seen buyers become excited about a home because of the kitchen, floor plan, backyard, or price.

But those things shouldn't cause you to overlook the bigger picture.

You can remodel a kitchen. You can replace flooring. You can paint walls and change landscaping.

You can't move the house to another part of town.

That's why location and lifestyle deserve serious consideration before you fall in love with a property.

When you're moving to an unfamiliar area, you don't necessarily know which communities you should be considering.
