For many people, there comes a point when being closer to family becomes more important than simply staying where you are.
Maybe your children and grandchildren live across town—or across the country. Maybe you're tired of missing birthdays, holidays, ball games, family dinners, or simply the everyday moments that don't make it onto the calendar.

The Move Is About More Than the House
Moving closer to family sounds simple: sell your current home, buy another one near your family, and move.
But there can be a lot more involved.
You need to determine what your current home may sell for, how much equity you could have available after the sale, what homes cost in the area where you're considering moving, and what your monthly expenses might look like after the move.
And don't forget the lifestyle questions.
How close do you really want to live to your family? Five minutes away? Twenty minutes? Same neighborhood—or just close enough for Sunday dinner?
Those conversations are worth having before you put your home on the market.
Selling Your Current Home Is Only Half the Move
One of the biggest mistakes homeowners can make is concentrating entirely on selling their current house without having a clear idea of what happens next.

Where are you going?
What can you comfortably afford when you get there?
Should you sell first or buy first?
How will we coordinate the timing of the two transactions?
What belongings are making the move with you?
Will you need temporary housing if the timing doesn't line up?

A well-planned move can eliminate a lot of unnecessary pressure.
