What Would You Do With Your Time If You Had Less Home Maintenance?

For many homeowners, there comes a point when the house that once fit perfectly starts demanding more time than they want to give it.

The yard needs attention. Something always needs repairing. Rooms that once served a purpose are rarely used anymore. Weekends can become a running list of chores instead of time spent doing the things you actually enjoy.

So here's a question worth asking:

What would you do with your time if you had less home maintenance?

Maybe you would travel more. Spend more time with family and friends. Play golf. Take day trips. Explore Arizona. Pick up an old hobby—or find a new one. Maybe you'd simply enjoy having a Saturday morning when nothing around the house needs your attention.

Less House Doesn't Have to Mean Less Life

Downsizing is sometimes misunderstood. It doesn't necessarily mean moving into a tiny home or giving up everything you've worked for.

It can simply mean finding a home that better fits the way you want to live today.

That could be a smaller single-family home with a manageable yard, a townhome, a condominium, a newer low-maintenance property, or a home in a community where some exterior maintenance is handled for you.

The goal isn't necessarily to own less.

The goal may be to have more freedom.

Start With How You Want to Live

When I work with someone considering a move, I don't think the first question should always be, "How many bedrooms do you want?"

I think a better question is:

"How do you want your life to look over the next five or ten years?"

Do you want to travel? Stay close to family? Have a lock-and-leave property? Eliminate stairs? Spend less time taking care of a yard? Have enough room for visitors without maintaining rooms you rarely use?

Once we know how you want to live, we can start looking for a home that supports that lifestyle.

You Don't Have to Be Ready to Move

Thinking about a different lifestyle doesn't mean you have to put your home on the market tomorrow.

Sometimes the first step is simply understanding your options.

What could your current home realistically sell for? What would your proceeds look like? What types of lower-maintenance homes are available in the Tucson area? What would the monthly expenses look like? Would moving actually improve your lifestyle enough to make it worthwhile?

Those are questions we can answer before you make any decisions.

Your home should serve your life—not require your life to revolve around maintaining it.

If you've started wondering whether less house could give you more life, let's have a conversation.
