It is now September, is there a checklist to get my home ready for fall?

Autumn Home Preparation Checklist

• Inspect and clean gutters and downspouts to prevent clogging from falling leaves

• Check your roof for damaged or missing shingles and repair as needed

• Seal gaps and cracks around windows and doors to prevent drafts

• Service your heating system and replace air filters

• Inspect and clean the chimney and fireplace if you use them

• Winterize outdoor faucets and sprinkler systems to prevent freezing

• Store or cover outdoor furniture and equipment

• Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and replace batteries if necessary

• Rake leaves and clean up yard debris

• Trim trees and bushes away from the house and power lines

• Check weatherstripping on doors and garage doors

• Prepare an emergency kit for possible storms or power outages
